About

MindUP, Haifa’s Digital Health Incubator, is a joint venture of Medtronic, IBM, Pitango Venture Capital, Impact 1st Investments and Rambam Medical Center, in collaboration with the Israeli Innovation Authority. MindUP aspires to be the leading hub of digital health innovation in Israel. It will translate disruptive technologies and cultivate new product concepts into leading Digital Health ventures, with the goal of transforming the delivery and quality of healthcare worldwide.

MindUP focuses its investments in the areas of Big Data, Predictive Analytics, Telemedicine, Cloud Computing, Wearable and Implantable Sensors, Advanced Point of Care Diagnostics, Personalized Medicine, Genomic Analysis, Hospital IT Systems, and other enabling technologies that together hold the promise of delivering high-quality and cost effective distributed medicine to billions of people. Each of the incubator’s partners is a leader in its field and together they form a powerful multi-disciplinary support platform that will provide incubated companies with access to knowledge, experience, technology and a network of impactful connections.

Dan has been a leader in the global healthcare technology industry for over 15 years, with experience spanning Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. to Israeli start-ups. Prior to joining MindUP, Dan was CEO and President of Virtual Ports Inc., a company developing, manufacturing and marketing innovative products to improve laparoscopic surgery. Prior positions include General Manager (EndoTool Business Unit) and Director of Strategic Marketing for Hospira Worldwide, Inc., a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, and senior positions at Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon and Ethicon EndoSurgery) and LifeWatch, Inc. He also enjoyed a 13-year career as an intelligence officer in the Israel Defense Forces.

Dan holds a Master’s in Business Administration, with Honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a Bachelor of the Arts, Cum Laude, in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Haifa, Israel.

Mr. Lior Teitelbaum, VP Business Development at MindUP is a healthcare executive with extensive experience in Business Development, Strategy, Scouting and Licensing, Partnering, Portfolio Planning and Strategy and Strategic Alliance Management in the Medical Technology, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries. Prior to joining MindUP Lior was Senior Director of Business Development at BioLineRx LTD, a biopharmaceutical development company, prior to that he served as Director of Business Development at MetaCure, a medical device company focusing on treatment of type 2 diabetes, Prior to that he served as Deal flow and Business Development Manager at Elron Electronic Industries, a technology focused investment company. Lior holds an MBA from the Recanati School of management at Tel Aviv University and an MSc. in molecular genetics from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Dan brings Professional experience in medical imaging, computer vision and augmented reality, biological sensors and monitoring and more.
Dan Holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Technion, Israel.

Dalia has 25 years of specialized experience with early-stage startup companies, including financial design and management, budgeting, investments, legal support, Bank escorting, human resources, and working with the Chief Scientist's Office. Dalia brings considerable experience to MindUp having previously held a position of CFO in the Technion technological incubator.
In the last years Dalia held a position of CFO in a commercial hi- tech services company.
Dalia holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Haifa University and qualified as Certified Accountant (CPA).

Yael Segev-Ecker Yael Segev-Ecker

Yael has over 12 year of experience in Administrative management for global companies. Prior to her current position, Yael served as a private assistant to the CEO of a major export company. From 2004-2013 she provided administrative assistance to the Spokesperson at the Israeli Electric Corporation.

Yael Holds a B.A in Human Services and English Literature from Haifa University and M.A in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from Tel Aviv University.

Ittai Harel Ittai Harel

Ittai Harel is a Managing General Partner with Pitango Venture Capital. His investment focus is in Healthcare, and includes digital health, medical devices, diagnostics, and specialty pharma.

Before joining Pitango, Ittai headed up Corporate Development at Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ: NKTR) and served as Executive Vice President at IDGene Pharmaceuticals. He also served as head of business development at IDEXX Laboratories (NASDAQ: IDXX).

Ittai currently serves on the Board of directors of DouxMatok, Intensix, Inotek Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ITEK), LifeBond, EarlySense, Medisafe, Valeritas, and Vertos Medical, and serves as Chairman of the Board at LifeBond and EarlySense

Ittai holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology from Ben Gurion University, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Aya Soffer Aya Soffer

Dr. Aya Soffer is Director of AI Tech in the IBM Research AI organization. In this role, Dr. Soffer directs the world-wide research strategy and works with IBM’s product groups and customers to drive Research innovation into the Market. Her focus is on creating world-class foundational AI technologies for Businesses while advancing the state-of-art AI capabilities for understanding unstructured data including image, video, speech, text and  multi-modal data. This includes extracing knowledge from data, applying reasoning, and interacting with data via dialog and natural language queries.

In her 18 years at IBM Dr. Soffer has lead several strategic initiatives that have resulted in in both breakthrough technology and IBM products and solutions. These include enterprise and social search technology, now part of IBM’s Social Enterprise and Watson products; Big data analytics solutions in the area of customer analytics and social listening; Multimedia management and analytics solutions in the area of healthcare, security, and retail.

Dr. Soffer received her MS and PhD degrees in computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1992 and 1995, respectively. Before joining IBM in 1999, she was a research scientist at  Goddard space flight center, where she worked on digital libraries for earth science data. Dr. Soffer has published over 40 papers in referred journals and conferences and filed over 15 patents. She has additionally served on program committees, as track chair, and given keynotes in many leading conferences including a TED Talk at TEDMED 2014.

Matt Anderson Matt Anderson

Matt Anderson is Vice President and General Manager of Lung Health for the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group (MITG) at Medtronic. He is responsible for the strategic direction and global leadership of MITG’s entire lung program, which includes the Thoracic Health division of Surgical Innovations and the Interventional Lung Solutions division of Early Technologies.

Matt joined Covidien, now part of Medtronic, in 2007. He most recently served as the Vice President and General Manager of Thoracic Health. Prior to that, Matt was the Vice President and General Manager for the Respiratory & Monitoring Solutions (RMS) division of Patient Monitoring & Recovery. Before his time with RMS, Matt was Vice President of Strategy & Business Development for Covidien’s Surgical Solutions business, where he led the development of business strategy, facilitated portfolio investment decisions across a variety of markets, and oversaw two significant business acquisitions, including the acquisition of superDimension — which established the Interventional Lung Solutions division. Matt has also held leadership positions within Covidien responsible for Global Marketing, U.S. Marketing, and Program Management functions.

Before joining Covidien, Matt held a number of leadership roles at Medtronic, Inc., and also served as an adviser in both healthcare strategy consulting and investment banking firms.

Matt has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Ronya Rubinstein Ronya Rubinstein

Ms. Ronya Rubinstein is the Director of the R&D Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Ms. Rubinstein leads IP commercialization, research collaborations, information sharing, conduct of clinical trials, and the promotion of an innovation ecosystem within Rambam Health Care Campus.
Prior to her position at Rambam, she was an attorney in the private sector and a Legal Assistant at the Haifa District.

Upon joining Rambam in 2008 Ms. Rubinstein started as the General Counsel of the R&D Business Unit. In that role she led contract negotiations including the drafting of relevant agreements such as license agreements, MTA's, and clinical trial agreements.
She has been a board member of the Rambam Health Care Campus since 2010, a member of Rambam's patent committee since 2009, and a spectator of the Helsinki Committee (IRB/EC) since 2008.
Ms. Rubinstein received her LLB Cum Laude (1996) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her LLM from the University of Haifa.
