About

MindUP, Haifa’s Digital Health Incubator, is a joint venture of Medtronic, IBM, Pitango Venture Capital, Impact 1st Investments and Rambam Medical Center, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of the Economy. MindUP aspires to be the leading hub of digital health innovation in Israel. It will translate disruptive technologies and cultivate new product concepts into leading Digital Health ventures, with the goal of transforming the delivery and quality of healthcare worldwide.

MindUP focuses its investments in the areas of Big Data, Predictive Analytics, Telemedicine, Cloud Computing, Wearable and Implantable Sensors, Advanced Point of Care Diagnostics, Personalized Medicine, Genomic Analysis, Hospital IT Systems, and other enabling technologies that together hold the promise of delivering high-quality and cost effective distributed medicine to billions of people. Each of the incubator’s partners is a leader in its field and together they form a powerful multi-disciplinary support platform that will provide incubated companies with access to knowledge, experience, technology and a network of impactful connections.

The program

We are continuously looking for outstanding entrepreneurs and promising early-stage innovative projects to add to our growing digital health community, while offering them 360° support in order to fulfill their vision.

Dan has been a leader in the global healthcare technology industry for over 15 years, with experience spanning Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. to Israeli start-ups. Prior to joining MindUP, Dan was CEO and President of Virtual Ports Inc., a company developing, manufacturing and marketing innovative products to improve laparoscopic surgery. Prior positions include General Manager (EndoTool Business Unit) and Director of Strategic Marketing for Hospira Worldwide, Inc., a global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, and senior positions at Johnson & Johnson (Ethicon and Ethicon EndoSurgery) and LifeWatch, Inc. He also enjoyed a 13-year career as an intelligence officer in the Israel Defense Forces.

Dan holds a Master’s in Business Administration, with Honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a Bachelor of the Arts, Cum Laude, in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Haifa, Israel.

Mr. Lior Teitelbaum, VP Business Development at MindUP is a healthcare executive with extensive experience in Business Development, Strategy, Scouting and Licensing, Partnering, Portfolio Planning and Strategy and Strategic Alliance Management in the Medical Technology, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries. Prior to joining MindUP Lior was Senior Director of Business Development at BioLineRx LTD, a biopharmaceutical development company, prior to that he served as Director of Business Development at MetaCure, a medical device company focusing on treatment of type 2 diabetes, Prior to that he served as Deal flow and Business Development Manager at Elron Electronic Industries, a technology focused investment company. Lior holds an MBA from the Recanati School of management at Tel Aviv University and an MSc. in molecular genetics from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Dan has Over 15 years of experience in the development of medical technologies from concept to market realization. Dan took Leading positions in large corporate companies and in medical startups. Dan brings Professional experience in medical imaging, computer vision and augmented reality, biological sensors and monitoring and more.
Dan Holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Technion, Israel.

Dalia has 25 years of specialized experience with early-stage startup companies, including financial design and management, budgeting, investments, legal support, Bank escorting, human resources, and working with the Chief Scientist's Office. Dalia brings considerable experience to MindUp having previously held a position of CFO in the Technion technological incubator.
In the last years Dalia held a position of CFO in a commercial hi- tech services company.
Dalia holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Haifa University and qualified as Certified Accountant (CPA).

Yael Segev-Ecker Yael Segev-Ecker

Yael has over 12 year of experience in Administrative management for global companies. Prior to her current position, Yael served as a private assistant to the CEO of a major export company. From 2004-2013 she provided administrative assistance to the Spokesperson at the Israeli Electric Corporation.

Yael Holds a B.A in Human Services and English Literature from Haifa University and M.A in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from Tel Aviv University.

Dr. David Israeli is a Managing Partner at Pitango Venture Capital. His investments focus is Life Sciences, specifically medical devices, mobile health and health IT, and biopharmaceuticals. Previously, David held several business development and marketing roles at Medtronic, Inc. in the United States. Later on, he become the VP of Medical Affairs at Rhythmia Medical - a medical device company engaged in the development of an advanced 3D mapping system of the heart’s electrical activity. Prior to joining Pitango, David was the Director of Business Development and Marketing at the Israeli branch of Medtronic Ventor Technologies.
David currently serves Chairman of the Board of Directors of Magenta Medical (VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, and APOS Therapy (as observer).
He holds an MD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Mr. Dror Pearl, IBM Israel Cloud Organization Leader, Served in a variety of Senior executive and Sales positions at IBM Since joining the company in 1994.
During a rewarding and successful career spanning over more than 25 years in the IT field, Dror has always demonstrated his extensive knowledge in Sales execution and Business Strategy Development. Dror was also the COO of IBM Israel over seven years, focusing on sales execution and country market share increase.
Prior to joining IBM, Dror served as the IT Manager at Opgal.
He holds Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Open University Business School.

Paul Hermes, Entrepreneur in Residence Surgical Innovations.
Mr. Hermes is Medtronic’s Entrepreneur in Residence responsible for the incubation of technologies to revolutionize the practice of surgery.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hermes served as Chief Technology Officer, Vice President, Research and Development (R&D) for Covidien’s Surgical Solutions segment. Since joining the Company in 1991, he has significantly impacted the surgical devices market, overseeing the launch of the TriStaple™, iDrive™, SILS™, AbsorbaTack™ and LigaSure™ product lines. He has been instrumental in revitalizing the company’s product portfolio, and established Covidien’s first innovation footprint in Asia.
Mr. Hermes is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He is the holder of a number of US and international patents. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Technology Council. Mr. Hermes served as a member of the University of Connecticut Engineering School Advisory Board. He is the Vice President of the Board for New Haven Symphony and he serves on the Advisory Board for the University of New Haven School of Arts and Sciences. Mr. Hermes has been honored with the highest technical honors of Covidien and Medtronic - the 2014 Covidien Chairman’s Lifetime Innovator Award and a 2015 induction into the Medtronic Bakken Society.

Ronya Rubinstein Ronya Rubinstein

Ms. Ronya Rubinstein is the Director of the R&D Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Ms. Rubinstein leads IP commercialization, research collaborations, information sharing, conduct of clinical trials, and the promotion of an innovation ecosystem within Rambam Health Care Campus.
Prior to her position at Rambam, she was an attorney in the private sector and a Legal Assistant at the Haifa District.

Upon joining Rambam in 2008 Ms. Rubinstein started as the General Counsel of the R&D Business Unit. In that role she led contract negotiations including the drafting of relevant agreements such as license agreements, MTA's, and clinical trial agreements.
She has been a board member of the Rambam Health Care Campus since 2010, a member of Rambam's patent committee since 2009, and a spectator of the Helsinki Committee (IRB/EC) since 2008.
Ms. Rubinstein received her LLB Cum Laude (1996) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her LLM from the University of Haifa.
